Memory of a Broken Dimension

Trailer for independent Japanese game which smartly employs glitch aesthetics in it’s game world as part of it’s narrative - video embedded below:

FPS?

The emulator of an obscure computer system propagates across the internet, a signal is established…

There is very little more information about the game … at one point there appears to have been an online playable work-in-progress, but that isn’t working anymore.

There are more screenshots at the website of the developer, Datatradgedy, here, plus more in this forum here

OH WOW OH WOW OH WOW OH WOW

GIVE ME THIS RIGHT NOW I NEED THIS SO HARD

Yesss, I saw the trailer for this last night, and it looks like a total mindfuck. Fingers crossed for this game.

i think i have been waiting my entire life for a game like this

Meet Borderlands 2′s Ellie: The “opposite of how most females tend to be represented in games”
I know that videogame characters are a bit out of the usual scope of this blog, but I came across Ellie from Borderlands 2 (above) this morning, and was really impressed with the character design.  I think it’s a great example of how a character can have any build and it looks amazing as long as the design is high quality.
It’s also a perfect example of how a woman doesn’t need a Sports Illustrated bikini bod to look like she can handle herself (actually I think Ellie looks like she breaks airbrushed bikini models in half just to wake up in the morning, then moves on to stacked male superheroes for brunch).
The article shows a few of the other highly non-stereotypical designs considered for the character as well.
If anyone was thinking of doing a superheroine story with a big girl kicking ass, Ellie could be some good inspiration.
The full article.

Woah.  She really doesn’t look like somebody you want to mess with.  Awesome. :D

Insta-reblog!

Finally. Character design that makes some fucking sense. Not that I have much against the actual design & aesthetics of women in skimpy clothing beating people up (sometimes the costume designs for these kinds of characters actually still look cool even if it’s completely illogical) but it’s very refreshing to break away from some of these ridiculous sexualized stereotypes and have a woman who is actually built for kicking ass. Go Borderlands 2. I still have hope yet for the women in video games.

I remember a friend of mine owned a Genesis along with a bunch or weird ass games, including Ecco. I don’t think either of us ever figured out what the hell was going on in that game.

Zombie Playground by Massive Black.

Kickstarter-ed!

Some of you may recognize the familiar image of the kid’s on the jungle gym, fighting off hoards of suspiciously adorable zombies. The image was passed around the internet labeled as “Left 4 Dead 4 Kids” and all the while, was a legitimate game being developed by Massive Black.

Alas, the curtains have been drawn and “Zombie Playground” has been revealed to be a legitimate project by Jason Chan and the expertly talented team at Massive Black.

Even better news, is Zombie Playground now has a Kickstarter, one which will run between May 22nd until June 26th.With the amount of money raised contributing to the robustness of the game itself. As usual, there are various perks to donating to the cause, plus the additional development bumps the team promise to deliver upon if certain milestones of funding are reached.

The team has a heck of a super-force of talent in the industry working on the game itself, including Jason Chan (Concept Artist on Dragon Age: Origins, Bioshock 2 and Mass Effect 3), Aesop Rock (Lyrical Bamf, Kickstarter Movie), Shawn Lee (Bully Soundtrack, Veteran Musician) and Chris Hatala (LOTR: Two Towers, LOTR: Return of the King, I-Robot, Various Games).

“In Zombie Playground you take on the role of a kid during a zombie apocalypse as seen through his or her imagination.  Your school is overrun by the undead, and it’s up to you and your friends to do whatever it takes to survive!”

All the info you could possibly need can be found either on the official website or the Kickstarter, including a great little video to wrap all the info up into a nice square box with moving pictures.

So, spread the word! re-blog, re-tweet, re-whatever and why not chip-in a few bucks and make a really cool looking, sounding, conceptualized game come into being with your help!

Awesome.

=0 This is the type of stuff I’d like to work on.

omg neat

this is very cool!
